Loan Periods

The Smithers Public Library is fine free! While we do not charge overdue fines on library materials, we expect our patrons to take note of and honour the due date for every item.

Please note, library users are responsible for lost or significantly damaged items and the related replacement or processing fees.

Collection Description Loan Period/Policy
Audiobooks Several hundred audiobooks available on CD or MP3. 3 weeks
Books Over 35,000 books for readers of all ages & interests. 3 weeks
Reference The library has a collection of non-circulating reference materials, including a comprehensive Local History section, that is always available for use in the library. In-Library Use Only
Music CDs The collection includes world music, local artists, country, rock, jazz, folk, classical, movie/show soundtracks, and a selection of children’s music. 3 weeks
DVDs
A diverse collection of movies, popular series, and documentaries for both children & adults (no renewals). 3 weeks
Magazines The most recent issue of each magazine does not circulate, but can be read in the library. Back issues can be checked out and are kept as space permits. Current issue: In-Library Use Only
Back issues: 3 weeks
Newspapers The Interior News, The Vancouver Sun In-Library Use Only
Literacy Kits Themed bags containing books and related activities for young children. 3 weeks
Tech Kits A variety of fun and educational technology kits for both children and adults. 2 weeks
Children’s Materials
An impressive collection of board books, picture books, beginning readers, junior novels, and junior non-fiction materials for children of all ages. We also have literacy kits and educational tech kits available for loan (see above). 3 weeks
Book Club Sets A good selection of sets of up to 10 copies of recent titles is shared among several BC libraries. Sets are available for book clubs and should be reserved ahead to avoid disappointment. Ask for details at the library. 3 weeks
